Consultation on Admission Arrangements

Consultation on Admission Arrangements

RE: Consultation on admission arrangements

I am writing to notify you of the upcoming consultation on the college’s admissions policy. The consultation period will run from Monday 29 November 2021 until 31 January 2022; during this time, parents, carers and other stakeholders are invited to express their views and any concerns about the proposed change to the admission arrangements at Hailsham Community College Academy Trust.

In accordance with the DfE’s 2014 statutory ‘College Admissions Code’ guidance, as a college we must consult on our admission arrangements when changes are proposed, and at least once every seven years. To this end, the following amendments to our admission arrangements have been proposed:

A change to the oversubscription criteria at 4+ admissions (Reception classes), giving a higher priority to pupils who have attended Hailsham Community College Pre-school.

This is being proposed as the Board of Trustees believe that there is the potential for over fifty percent of the Reception cohort to be made up of children from the Pre-school. These children would transition directly into Reception, which is good for a child’s wellbeing and reduces lost learning. Hailsham Community College Pre-school children benefit from a continuous curriculum that begins and builds from the age of two to nineteen years. Should a child from Hailsham Community College Pre-school join a different school, they would not benefit from these pedagogical strategies.

A full version of the proposed changes to the admission arrangements is available below or in hard copy from College.

In accordance with statutory DfE guidance, the consultation will run for at least six weeks and, as an interested party we are keen to hear your views on the proposed changes therefore, we invite you to participate in the consultation if you have any concerns regarding the matter.

All responses to the consultation should be made in writing and submitted before 10am on 31 January 2022 by email or in writing for the attention of Mrs Susan Wilkinson.

Please note that written responses should outline your personal details, including your name, address and relationship to the college.

At the end of the consultation period, the governing board will meet to consider responses. The outcome of the consultation will be published on the college website as soon as possible following a decision being reached by the board. Hard copies of the final report will be made available on request to all respondents of the consultation.

If you wish to further discuss this matter, or anything mentioned in this letter, please contact the college office on 01323 841468 or email hcc@hccat.net

Yours faithfully,
Phil Matthews
Executive Principal
