Hailsham Academy Primary Phase

Welcome from the Headteacher – Primary Phase
Tom Redman

Welcome to Hailsham Academy Primary Phase and Preschool, the first phase of our all-through school. Since opening in September 2019, with our Preschool following in 2020, we have been immensely proud of the thriving community we have built. Our vision is to provide the very best possible start to every child’s educational journey, ensuring that they leave our phase confident, curious, and ready to excel at the next stage of their learning.

Our Primary Phase is housed in a purpose-built school near Hellingly village, just north of Hailsham and approximately a mile from our Secondary Phase site. The building and facilities were designed from the outset by educators to create a state-of-the-art learning environment. From spacious, well-resourced classrooms to dedicated outdoor learning areas, a floodlit all-weather pitch, a daily mile circuit, SEND therapy rooms, a technology room, and a studio, every aspect of our site is designed to inspire curiosity, creativity and a love of learning from the very start.

We place great importance on nurturing the whole child, balancing high academic ambition with a strong focus on personal development, wellbeing and character education. Our dedicated staff deliver a rich, ambitious and knowledge-led curriculum that is carefully sequenced to enable all pupils, regardless of their starting point, to make excellent progress. Reading is at the heart of our curriculum, and we are relentless in developing confident, fluent readers who develop a lifelong love of books.

Equally, our wider curriculum provides opportunities for creativity, physical development, outdoor learning, and enrichment experiences that broaden horizons. We understand that each child is unique and learns in different ways; our staff treat children as individuals and personalise learning to help every child reach their full potential. We also recognise the importance of equipping children with life skills beyond academics, including communication, emotional understanding, cultural awareness and digital literacy.

Strong links with the Secondary Phase allow us to benefit from shared expertise, specialist teaching, and seamless transition arrangements, ensuring our children progress smoothly through their all-through school journey. We value partnership with parents and carers highly, recognising that you know your children best. By working together and listening to your views, we can ensure every child thrives.

At Hailsham Academy, we expect all members of our school community to make their MARK by demonstrating manners, acceptance, respect, and kindness, and support our pupils to be motivated, articulate, resilient, and knowledgeable. These values are embedded in all we do and are evident in the excellent relationships across our school community – between staff, students, parents, carers, and the wider local community.

We warmly encourage you to visit Hailsham Academy Primary Phase and Preschool to see our vibrant learning community in action.

Make Your MARK: Become a Trustee

At Hailsham Academy, we are proud to be part of MARK Education Trust, where strong governance plays a key role in supporting our school’s success and the opportunities we provide for our students.

Our governors and trustees work closely with school leaders to provide strategic oversight, challenge and support, helping to ensure that every student benefits from a high‑quality education and a positive school experience.

We are currently looking to strengthen our governance community and would welcome interest from individuals with professional expertise, particularly in:

  • Finance
  • Audit and Risk
  • Cyber Security

This is not an operational role within the school, but an opportunity to apply your skills and experience at a strategic level, contributing to the long‑term development of the school and helping to shape future success.

Becoming a governor or trustee is a rewarding way to:

  • Make a meaningful difference to young people’s lives
  • Support the continued success of your local school
  • Develop your own experience in leadership, strategy and governance

Interested in finding out more? Please visit the Trust website or contact our Trust Governance Manager directly to start a conversation:

We would also be grateful if you could share this opportunity within your professional networks, particularly on LinkedIn, to help us reach individuals who could make a real impact.

Thank you for your continued support of our school and for helping us ensure that every student can make their MARK.
