School children at break time playing on climbing frame with teacher

In September 2019 we will be welcoming two Reception classes to our brand new primary school situated on the development next to Park Road in Hellingly.  This is to become the primary phase of our all-through academy that will ultimately see children joining our Nursery from the age of 2 and leaving Hailsham Sixth Form when they are 18 or 19.

As Hellingly continues to grow, it has long been clear that there would be a need for additional primary school places and as a school judged to be ‘Good’ by Ofsted, East Sussex County Council decided that Hailsham Community College was best placed to lead the new venture.  We are tremendously excited about this prospect.  All-through schooling provides a fantastic opportunity to work across all key stages, sharing expertise and facilities to secure the best outcomes for our young people.

Building is now underway.  The architect and developers have a detailed and rigid plan to ensure that we will be up and running in time for September.  It helps enormously that the buildings are modular in design, so are being fabricated off site enabling fast installation once the groundworks are ready.

As you would expect, a great deal of thought has gone into the design of the school to ensure that the building and facilities will meet our high expectations for what we want to provide for the children.  As well as a separate Nursery facility for 40 children, the 14 classrooms will be equipped with state of the art technology, there will be a library and separate Food Science and Technology areas, SEN therapy rooms and a multi-use hall space for dining and sports.  Hailsham Community College has always had a reputation for sporting excellence and we will be extending this to the new school.  Outdoor play areas will include a floodlit multi-use games area with two mini-pitches, two grass mini-pitches, a junior football pitch and an outdoor netball court.  To further promote healthy lifestyles, there will also be a pedestrian perimeter path suitable for ‘daily mile’ activities.

I will continue to lead the strategic direction of the all-through school.  The day to day running of the primary academy will be the responsibility of newly appointed Head of School, Mr Thomas Redman who will oversee a team of carefully selected teaching and non-teaching staff, all firmly committed to our motto ‘be the very best you can be’.
